The ITC SRA Mini Sangeet Sammelans resumed after a considerable
period of time with the inaugural session held at Jangipur,
Murshidabad district, West Bengal on 25 th October 2009. The
Sammelan was jointly organized by Sangeet Piyasi, Jangipur and
ITC Sangeet Research Academy. The concert which took place at
Rabindra Bhavan, Jangipur started at 10 am.
The Sammelan commenced with a vocal performance by Deborshee
Bhattacharjee, an ITC SRA Scholar under Guru Pandit Ajoy
Chakrabarty. He sang two compositions on Raag Bairagi, the first
one set to vilambit ektaal “Mere Man Me Baso Ram” and the next
one to Drut teental “Sura Sura Se Sadh Le”. After the Khayal,
Deborshee sang a Meera Bhajan. Accompanying Deborshee were
Indranil Bhaduri (Tabla) and Rupashree Bhattacharya (Harmonium).
The next artist of the morning was Sitarist, Joyeeta Sanyal, who
is also an ITC SRA Scholar. After a short alaap she played Jod
and Jhala in raga Charukeshi which is a South Indian Raga. She
was accompanied on tabla by Sandip Kr Ray Chaudhuri.
The morning ended with a mesmerizing peformance in Raga Bhairavi
by the maestro and senior Guru of ITC SRA, Pandit Ajoy
Chakrabarty. He sang two compositions, the first one in Vilambit
Ektaal composed by the maestro himself, “Karam Karo More Sai”,
the next one set to Drut Teental, “Bat Chalat Mose”. He
concluded his performance with a dadra in Raga Mishra Kirwani,
“Basudev Nainan Me Nandlal”. On the request of the packed
audience he sang a famous Bengali composition based on the same
raga “Ghum Ase Na”. He was accompanied by Indranil Bhaduri (Tabla)
and Rupashree Bhattacharya (Harmonium).
