Shubhada Paradkar

Shubhada Paradkar possesses the unique distinction of learning under all the four major gharanas of Hindustani Classical Music. Her Kirana gharana talim can be attributed to Pandit R.D.Potdar, while Agra gharana stalwarts Pandit Madhusudan Joshi and Pandit Babbanrao Haldankar have trained her at different times. Late Pandit Gajananrao Joshi trained her in the Gwalior and Jaipur gharana styles. Shrimati Padmavati Shaligram of the Jaipur gharana has also trained her for a long time. Her singing therefore displays the intricate layakari of the Agra gharana as well as complex phirat tans of the Jaipur gharana. Maintaining the purity of Ragas, she places special emphasis on a lively interaction between rhythm and melody. A renowned khayal singer, she is equally proficient in semi-classical varieties like thumri, tappa and bhajan.

Her formal music instruction includes a Masters degree in music from S.N.D.T. University, Mumbai, where she now regularly guides senior students. She is also associated with Lalit Kala Kendra at Pune University, where she conducts workshops and gives lecture demonstrations.

She has been a regular performer over All India Radio, Mumbai and different television channels. She has also performed throughout the country, including concerts such as the Dover Lane Conference (Kolkata), Sawai Gandharva Sammelan (Pune and Kundgol), and the Tansen Samaroh (Gwalior). Her recitals abroad have also received considerable appreciation. Shubhada has several cassettes and CDs to her credit.
