Our Scholars Perform
Initially trained by her father, Ruchira Kale started learning both the classical and semi-classical forms of Hindustani vocal music when she was 14, from Alka Deo Marulkar, a vocalist of the Jaipur gharana. She went on to top the All India Radio Music Competition in 1999 and subsequently bagged the National Talent Search Scholarship from the Government of India in 2000. She is now a Scholar at the ITC SRA under the guidance of the veteran vocalist Ulhas Kashalkar. Featured here is an excerpt from her performance at the ITC Sangeet Sammelan held in Delhi in February, 2005. Accompanying her were Samar Saha on the tabla and Rupashree Bhattacharya on the harmonium.
