Shahid Parvez Khan
Shahid Parvez is one of the most brilliant sitar players of today, one of the representatives of the great musical hierarchy of the Imdadkhani (Etawah) gharana. Son of Ustad Aziz Khan, famous musician and noted composer and grandson of Ustad Wahid Khan, the surbahar and sitar virtuoso, Shahid Parvez was introduced to vocal music and tabla by his father, before being initiated into sitar-playing at the age of four.
He was soon recognized as a child prodigy and gave his first public performance at the age of eight. A purist from the beginning, Shahid Parvez has developed a distinctive style of his own, combining the gayaki and the tantrakari schools of instrument playing. His rendering of the gayaki ang on the sitar reveals the influence of the legendary Ustad Vilayat Khan, his father`s cousin, the undisputed emperor of Sitar.
Recognized as one of the best sitar players of his generation and hugely in demand all over India and the world, Shahid Parvez has also trained several disciples, including his son. Shahid Parvez is a top grade artiste of All India Radio. He has been honoured with several awards, both national and international and has numerous LPs, cassettes, and CDs to his credit. He has participated in major festivals in India and abroad, including the Festival of India, held in U.S.A, Canada, USSR and Europe, enthralling audiences everywhere.
